Allegation: Texas Democratic Party & Texas Majority PAC’s Joint Venture Corruptly Expends Communications, Staff, & Volunteer Resources on TDP Chairman Scudder’s Reelection
Incumbent TDP Chairman Scudder & TMP’s Continued Pattern of Unethical, Inappropriate Actions, & Conflicts of Interest Raise Serious Doubt About Their Leadership & Decision Making
Austin — TDP Chair Candidate Marco Orrantia said there is documented evidence of egregious self-dealing in the race for Texas Democratic Party Chair. The Texas Majority PAC and TDP are spending their resources on yet another intraparty campaign — taking their eyes off the ball to support the full slate of the Texas Democrats, with U.S. Senate Candidate, State Rep. James Talarico, and Gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa at the top of the ticket.
“Volunteers signed up to help Hinojosa, Talarico, and the full Democratic ticket on the Texas Together site and were expecting to be using the Scale to Win dialer to contact voters about the most important November election yet in our lifetime, but instead, they were campaigning for the TDP Chair’s reelection at the end of this month,” Orrantia said. “TDP Chairman Kendall Scudder is the most corrupt TDP Chair in many decades.”
After criticism for intervening in Democratic Primaries, specifically in the lieutenant gubernatorial race, TMP appears determined to repeat the same mistakes in the race for Texas Democratic Party Chair.
Orrantia looks forward to reviewing the campaign finance reports posted by the Texas Democratic Party, Chairman Scudder, and Texas Majority PAC.
“There is no way that the governing board, the State Democratic Executive Committee, of the Texas Democratic Party approved of a budget line item at their January meeting in South Padre Island that would authorize the party or a coordinated campaign to make an expenditure on Chairman Scudder’s reelection campaign,” Orrantia said. “I soon plan on filing an official complaint with the Disciplinary Committee on this violation of stealing money from our party’s treasury all for Chairman Scudder to stay in power — this is extremely unjust.”
Repeating what was written in a previous release:
“The delegates who will choose the future leadership of the Texas Democratic Party at the Texas Democratic Convention in Corpus Christi, June 25-27, deserve complete answers regarding these allegations before casting their votes. Restoring trust requires transparency and accountability. The Texas Democratic Party must be an organization that reflects the values we ask voters to trust us with every election cycle.”
The four pillars of Orrantia’s campaign for Chair are:
Service Over Self
Marco does not fight the good fight for revenge or ego; he leads because the mission of electing Texas Democrats demands a leader who puts the team first.
Battle-Tested Experience
Marco brings 15 years of hard-fought campaign experience and knows exactly where the state party's infrastructure and operations break down, how to fix them, and how to prioritize. He will ensure a smooth transition without requiring any on-the-job training.
Accountability & Empowerment
In building an honorable, ethical party with integrity, Marco shall hold himself and party leadership accountable and empower local leaders, county parties, and grassroots organizers.
Transparency & True Collaboration
When sunlight shines on internal processes and is paired with effective work across allied and party organizations, rather than just dictating from Austin or Dallas, Marco will build trust among the Democratic coalition that thinks the state party is failing, ineffective, or irrelevant. The process is as important as the cause.
